Mai Khôi & The Dissidents:
“Bad Activist” and “Five Years in Exile” Album Release

A powerful 2-in-1 concert experience at National Sawdust, presented in partnership with Artistic Freedom Initiative.

First, Khôi performs Bad Activist, a multimedia performance tracing her journey from celebrated Vietnamese pop star to artist in exile. Following a dinner break, the band returns to debut their new album, Five Years in Exile, available for the first time following the show.

The evening moves from personal testimony to electrifying live music, with new songs confronting climate collapse, political imprisonment, corporate power, and the emotional terrain of building a life far from home.

AFI has proudly supported Mai Khôi across our programs. In 2020, we welcomed her into our AFI-led New York City Artist Safe Haven Residency Program, where she first developed and debuted Bad Activist.
