Ali Chitsaz

Visual Art

Originally from Tehran, Ali Chitsaz lives and works in New York. He studied painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Ali’s paintings address contemporary politics in his native Iran, often portraying caricatured images of the ruling clerics and revered figures of Islam. While playing on tropes of both Persian and American culture, Chitsaz distorts dimensions and uses uncomfortable perspectives to create dreamlike scenarios. His work has been exhibited internationally at a number of well-respected institutions and galleries in London, New York, Chicago, Athens, Tehran, Dubai, and Cambridge.
