“My songs did not make me famous. The fatwa did.” Thanks to everyone who attended our screening of internationally acclaimed documentary When God Sleeps, about exiled Iranian musician Shahin Najafi.
A dynamic panel discussion followed the film, addressing immigration, free expression, and human rights. We heard critical perspectives from filmmaker Sara Nodjoumi; AFI Legal Services Director, Reza Mazaheri; and Executive Director of Center for Human Rights in Iran, Hadi Ghaemi. An extra special thanks to the Forum on Life, Culture & Society, who co-sponsored this exciting event with us.
